3)It is 3 out of 4 children are african american and 88% are racial minorities just like SciTech.80% will go on to a two or four year college. This is just as our kids are expected to do. Also at CHAD they have a main study course but teach all subjects. Just like at SciTech Science and technology play a lrge part but we learn every subject. At CHAD they dress up as we do, they look at CHAD as a safe place where adults care and high expectations just like SciTech. We also have a higher attendance rate then most schools around here just like CHAD.
4)We could improve our design make it more attractive and appealing to students. Our school is so plain and just no color it feels like a office and not a school, so tecnical..not like a place for students. Other than the small things i believe or look is o.k.

In this chapter, it says that design has become an essential aptitude for personal fulfillment and professional success. Also, it’s important because in this chapter it says that like the furniture that you own in your life were imagined by someone and they brought them into being.
2) CHAD is stand for the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. This school is a tuition-free Philadelphia public school that demonstrates the power of designing. So, CHAD basically the school teaches their students all about designing and what’s funny is that most of these students had never taken an art class, and the students were not really smart. CHAD was founded in 1999 as the country’s first public high school with a design-centered curriculum. The goal of this school is to use design to teach core academic subjects. The students were spent about 100 minutes each day in the design studio.
3) I think that our school and CHAD is different because our school is about science and technology and CHAD is about designing and art. However, our school and CHAD also have similarities. The similarities are that our school and CHAD both are using technology to do the work. Our school is also about creative and imaginative when we’re doing project.
4) I think that SciTech could improve their look by keep updating their technology system. SciTech could also improve their look by finding students that has potentials in learning. b. Design is important because without it we wouldn’t have any of the things that we take for granted. The book says “Everything is your midst is designed.” Design creates things that people need. However, because most needs have been filled, the purpose of design is to create things that not only fulfill their purpose, but are also pleasing to the senses. Also, the book says that when the US state department switched its standard font, everyone knew what it was talking about. However, the original one still fulfilled the purpose of being legible and conveying the message. Why change? Because someone designed that font to be better than the original.
2.) CHAD is the Charter School for Architecture and Design. It is a free Philadelphia public school. The school focuses more on R-Directed think more than normal schools, and is pioneering a new way to educate our youth.
3.) The book says that CHAD has a higher attendance rate than the regular schools. Our school has a higher attendance rate than John Harris, so we are similar in that. Also, both CHAD and our school educate the students differently than the normal schools. They focus on design and we focus on technology, so we are different in that.
4.) I think that SciTech could improve our “look” by opening the blinds in more of our classrooms. It can sometimes get a little boring with just the florescent lights. I realize that because of the more urban setting of our school, not every classroom can be like that, but the ones that can, I suggest we make then a little more naturally lit. This could help students focus better.

Design is important because prosperity is rising and technology is advancing. Because all of these advancements quoted from this chapter, design is becoming necessary to make this new technology attractive. Another reason is because of the market. The business market needs to differentiate from each other and need to created new markets.
CHAD is the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. It is in Philadelphia. CHAD and SciTech are similar because they both work to better their students. Both schools work to nourish minds. They both are also tuition-free schools and in both schools, a majority of graduates go off to college. They are different because CHAD focuses more on design where SciTech is a science and technology school.
The design of SciTech is improving, especially over the past few years. The murals in the commons and in the back of the cafeteria have created an aura of friendliness and they have created a welcomed feeling. Things that we could improve on are making the walls of the more visible floors welcoming. Maybe we should have artwork of students hanging and poems and such.

SciTech is mostly about learning and really not that much hand on projects.
4. I think that our school needs little more projects that can help us with our future. We should be put into classes that it out best need. For example, I think that I would be most fitted to be a chemist or a forensic scientist so I should take mostly science, math and computer classes.

4. I think we can improve our school in many ways. For the last few years our schools have been improving. We could always use bigger lockers. I think our lockers are too small and they do not fit many of our things. While I was at Marshall I saw how our lockers are way smaller than theirs. They are only in middle school and the have bigger lockers than we do. Our school is improving on its own and we should take is slow step by step.

Chad and SciTech are both similar because we both wear uniforms and have dress code. Also both schools both focus on major points, Chad focuses more on Architecture and Art design while SciTech is more of a math and science pointed school. Also most of the students that attend Chad are African American just like SciTech. Also the attendance rate at Chad is good at a 95 percent and just like SciTech it has a good attendance rate. Also it is the only school of its kind.
I think SciTech could use brighter colors for the look of our building. The colors we use and very bland and kind of dull. Also I do like the font and logo we have chosen because you can tell just from a glance that the logo we have is strictly for SciTech and not the High or any other school. Also I love the ‘look’ of our building and environment because it gives you a good place to learn and improve.

1B: In this chapter on page 70, it talks about how things ranging from the clothes on your back to the building that we are in right now are only in our lives because someone imagined them and brought them into being. Then on the same page at the bottom he says that designs ultimate purpose is to take over the world! Now if that doesn’t make it important I don’t know what does.

4. I believe that Sci Tech’s design on the out side of the building is beautiful. I like the way they used frosted glass in the front of the building. That being said I think that it could have been more colorful and brighter. That’s all I can really say. Who ever it was that designed our building made great choices for it.

With todays technology it is now possible to design and provide new materials for people all over the world who are waiting for the next big thing to arrive. Another reason is that design is a way to stand out and rise above the norm. When you design something unseen it is popular and in demand, because in today’s society it is a priority to have the latest accessories before anyone else. Also design changes the world.

Similar things about SciTech and CHAD are that they are public and tuition free schools. Many of their students go on to two- or four-year colleges and have successful careers. Both schools have a dominant African American student population. Differences are that SciTech is more focused on math and science, while CHAD is more design centered. Also CHAD is free for all students, no matter where they live. At SciTech if you do not live within Harrisburg city limits you must pay a tuition fee.

SciTech is a very nice school in appearance, but it could definitely use some color. The white walls and brown flooring are very boring in my own personal opinion. Color make a building look alive and creates a happy environment. Grays, browns, and whites make me depressed and sleepy.

The main reason as to why it is important is because “design has been an essential aptitude for personal fulfillment and professional success”, as described in the chapter. Basically, this means is that by designing, you can create necessities that aren’t available naturally and is key to the business world and to success.
2. CHAD stands for the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. It’s a tuition fee school that is designed to expand the young minds beyond what other schools would. It’s basically an alternative high school that challenges you more.
3. This school is very similar to Sci-Tech because as the statistics say, 80 percent of them will go on to two or four year colleges. That’s a very good percentage compared to how the kids usually are going into the school. Here at Sci-Tech, about everyone attends some kind of college program after graduation. However, it’s different because they focus more on art and design where here, we don’t have those kind of thing; mainly science and technology. But I guess, depending on how you look at it that can go hand-in-hand.
4. I feel as though Sci-Tech could improve their look a lot on the outside. The outside is very bland and just seems to blend in. It’s like many people overlook it and have to ask where it is. The inside could use improving too because the color scheme is very calm, yet dull at the same time. I don’t think that helps catch attention nor improve our look. Those are the main things I would focus on to improve.

Another thing that the schools have in common is that they both have dress codes. The last thing that they have in common is that even though both schools have different focuses, they still make education there main focus. Even though they have a lot of things in common they still are different. One way that they are different in located in cities. SciTech is located in Harrisburg, while Chad is located in Philly. The next thing that they differ in the SciTech is a school about science, and Chad is a school about design. The last difference between the two school is that you can live any where and go to Chad for free but you can only go to SciTech free if you live in Harrisburg.

Chad is somewhat similar to SciTech because their two schools that deal with similar subjects. At both schools we have to wear uniforms so that we represent our school. We also have a colorful mural in our school that visitors past by and take interest in all the time. The Difference between the two schools is that one focuses on art and architecture the other is about math and science. The kids at CHAD wear specific uniforms but, at SciTech we choose what we wear we just have to make sure its casual. Both the schools are very appealing to the public eye and we have to set standards for ourselves.
3.SciTech could improve their look brining in more community service activity and extra curricular activities like gym into the school. We could be more responsible about what we wear when coming to school. I think one issue that should be changed is the whole being late a couple minutes and ending up with detention. I think they should just take away things like dress down day. But overall SciTech is perfect, I love the school, teachers, and most of the people who attend it.

The first reason is because of the rising success and advancing technology, good design is now more accessible than ever, which lets more people to have part in its benefits and become experts of what was once specialized knowledge. It’s also important in the business world as a way to make new markets. The third reason is as more people develop a design sensibility, we’ll increasingly be able to change the world.
2.It is the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. It’s a tuition-free public school in Philadelphia that is demonstrating the power of design to expand young minds, while also puncturing the myth that design is the province of a select few.
3.SciTech and CHAD are similar because you have to prove that you are willing to work hard and work up to the standards that are expected of you. Both schools also give you opportunities that most schools don’t get to have. They are different because of the fact that CHAD is a design school and SciTech is a school of mostly science and technology and all of the classes are honors or AP.
4.I don’t think our school needs to improve on anything the teachers are bright and have a variety of ways when it comes to teaching their classes.

3. The way it is similar to SciTech High is because they focus for their kids to go to college. Also they focus on the same subjects as us as Math, Science, Social studies, and English.
4. The way that we could change is probably by having courses that are careers are going to be in the future. Like if somebody wanted to be a cartoonist they should have a basic course for that career. To me there is nothing we need to change because SciTech is preparing us for what we want to do in life and what we need to do in life.

According to the author, the definition of design can be defined “as the human nature to shape and make our environment in ways without precedent in nature, to serve our needs and give meaning to our lives”. The importance of design is for “personal fulfillment and professional success” It gives us varieties of everything. Design can create new things and create difference. Design changes drastically with new ideas.
2)What is CHAD?
CHAD, which stands for Charter High School for Architecture and Design, is a specially made school for students who expand their minds and use their ability in architecture and design. The tuition is free and students are given opportunities that can’t be provided in a regular school.
3)Using statistics and examples from the chapter explain how the CHAD school is similar to SciTech. How is it different?
Chad is an alternative school for individuals to demonstrate their abilities that can’t other wise be used in regular school. Its aim is in certain subjects. SciTech is also an alternative school that aims in certain subjects, like science and technology. The difference is the subjects. They both were made for success.
4)Using knowledge gained from the "Designing Our Future" section explain how you feel SciTech could improve their "look". Also explain what you think is not working for the "look" of our building.
Well the feel of SciTech is very professional. Certain parts of the building have more of a creative feel than others. Some parts are really dull. That could be an improvement. Other than that I think SciTech is very nice.

ReplyDeletea. Design has become crucial for many modern businesses. and example of this is the toaster. Though it is only used for 15 minutes in a 1,425 minute day, but the design is very important. Most toasters do the same thing and only toast 2 pieces of bread, but the prices vary because of the fact that some look better than others.
b. Another example is the 2001 presidential election. If the designs of the voting machines during the election had been changed, the outcome could have been very different and George W. Bush might not have been president.
2) CHAD stands for Charter High School for Architecture and Design. The school is tuition-free and located in Philadelphia. It is a public school that is focused on design.
3) CHAD is a school made up of 88 percent minorities, three-thirds being African American. The school is used by people who want to expand their minds more than a normal area high school would. I believe that SciTech high school is the same thing. Those of us who want to enhance our education with the Honors classes and Community Partnership Days attend SciTech high for the challenge. CHAD is different from SciTech because of the fact that it is solely focused on Design and SciTech is focused on Science and Technology.
4) I think that SciTech has a great design to it. There is a lot of natural light. Especially on the third floor where there are window ceilings. The stairs are unique, there are not any drab looking rooms and the rooms are pretty ample in size. One thing I would've like was if there were bathrooms and water fountains at each side of the hallway instead of one. Other than that I really like the upbeat and hip design of SciTech High.

CHAD is similar to SciTech because the attendance rate is higher than other schools and we have other important subjects in our schools, such like math, science, english, social studies, and other courses. The difference is that CHAD focuses on architecture and design and SciTech focuses on math and science.
4. I believe that SciTech could improve its look by making it more comfortable for the students and the teachers and have a little color in our school would help. Because it stated in this chapter that improving the school’s physician appearance could increase test scores. I thought that making it seems like a home, students would be able to adapt to it easier and we would be more comfortable in school which would help us focus and concentrate more.

3. Chad and SciTech is just alike if like at it. We both dress up and we may have a general subject but we study all subjects. Parents think our school is good and fro the best. And like Chad with 88% minorities going to college we have 80%.
4. Our school should have color just a tab bit or maybe not because we want to learn and be different. We are walking billboards of the school meaning we wear the school the school don’t wear us.

Everything around us is or was an image made into a living thing or building. Design is important because it help you so you’re creative side and you technology use. For example the piece of furniture on which you're sitting. The building that surrounds you. These things and brought them into being.

Sci-tech is a nice school it has a professional look but yet there is still a creative feeling to it. Something that can be improved with the building is more space and more colors.
