In 300 words or more (at least 100 words/question) please answer the following questions.
1. Share your thoughts and / or experiences with standardized testing (PSSA, 4Sight, SAT). Are these tests accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential?
2. Overabundance of “stuff” (from L-directed Thinkers) leads to a shift towards R-directed thinkers to repackage, re-sell stuff to us. It is no longer “I need to buy / own….,” now it’s “why do I need / want to buy / own that.” How does this effect our daily purchasing/spending? Is this money well spent? Thinking about outsourcing jobs is this a "good thing" or a "bad thing"? While outsourcing we allow ourselves to spend more on marketing - is this a "good thing" or a "bad thing"?
3. All jobs that depend on routines – that can be reduced to a set of rules, or broken down into a set of repeatable steps – is at risk.” How do you feel about jobs of the future? Outsourcing? How will this effect jobs which you will be pursuing after college?

ReplyDelete1) I believe these test only tell how well u can figure out mathematics or problem solving. These tests don’t really reflect your whole intelligence. I also don’t think u should base someone’s potential on a test. I believe that these tests are not to be used to judge someone’s intelligence. Many right brain people as myself would not do as well on those test as a left brained person would. I have taken many of those tests and I do very well on the parts that make you relate to real life. I don’t do so well on those questions that are just based on the left brain. So therefore I think more likely left brained people would do better on these test than right brained people.
2) This is showing that today we base our judgment on name brand more than the actual product. This means that people will spend money on the product that looks better even if it is expensive. The money is not actually spent very well. Even if we know the cheaper product is just as good, we still will purchase the expensive one due to the need to keep up with society. This is a good thing for right brain people who can come up with the marketing ideas. It may not be a good thing for left brained people who aren’t really as needed. It is also good because it is a job that will remain in the U.S.
3) I feel that jobs of the future will be more right-brained. All of our easy repetitive jobs will be sent over seas. I think the jobs of the future will be based on creativity and originality. Jobs such as computer programmers and cubicle workers will be really unnecessary in the U.S. These jobs will be sent over seas. Outsourcing is making the left-brained people lose jobs. It is in the run also helping our economy; we can pay less to those over seas to do easy jobs. The jobs in U.S will be more right- brained based, give more creative people a chance to really shine. It will give me a chance after colleges to not only show my problem solving, and educational skills. It will also give me a chance to show my creative, and artistic side.

ReplyDeleteI have done well with standardized tests. I have not had any bad encounters with standardized tests, but I don’t look forward to them. I feel that for those who do well, they show how good you are in school, but for others, they don’t do justice. There are many things that factor into how well you do on a test. You may be smart and good at school, but get nervous when taking tests. I feel that the only reason we take them is because that’s the only way the system knows how to record that type of data.
2. Marketing is a question you would really have to ask me when I’m older because to be honest, I don’t purchase so I don’t care as much as an adult would care. But if speaking for an adult, I think it would be money well spent, basically because it would support our economy, which at this point is in bad shape. It’s always good to think before you purchase too. It will help us buy things that we genuinely need. When we buy things we genuinely need, we give our money and we won’t fall into a pool of poorness because we’d be balancing it out.
3. I feel that this will be difficult for those who want to go into a career that could be outsourcing. The profession that I am going after can’t be outsourced, but for those who want to have a job that could be outsourced they would most likely have to maneuver around that profession just to be safe. Like if you want to be an accountant, but your afraid it will get shipped, go into another profession that deals with numbers that can’t be outsourced, such as a math teacher. In the end everyone would probably have to think and reevaluate.

1. I think that standardized testing helps you exercise your brain and I think that it also helps you to remember things better because it tests your knowledge in all areas of what you have learned up until that point. So, basically I say yes, this is an accurate reflection of one’s intelligence and potential. I say this because of what I have said before and also because some things are on the test and you don’t know what they are and make educated decisions to try and get the correct answer.
2. This effects our daily spending by some people are spending less because they are buying the cheaper products, but then some are spending more because they are buying the brands that cost more. No, the money isn’t well spent because they are buying the exact same thing in different packaging, so it’s actually a waste of money to the consumer buying the more expensive brand. I’m guessing that this is sort of both a good and bad thing. I say it’s a good thing because I think it gives people jobs when they are designing what they want to put on the can. I say it’s a bad thing because people are spending more for no reason.
3. I think that jobs of the future or at least most of the jobs will require you to have more creative skills. The jobs that require you to think mostly with your left brain will be outsourced and I think that will just cause more unemployment because not everybody wants to move overseas, to keep their job. Then again sometimes people will do it if they absolutely have to. I’m not sure how it will affect my job once I get to college because I want to be a psychiatrist, it might or it might not, but I think that it won’t really affect my job.
1. I think that the standardized test like PSSA, 4Sight, and SAT are accurate test of one’s intelligence or potential. The reason I believe so is because the test like that refresh our memory and they want us to know like if we still remember all the things that we’ve learned in the past. Also, sometimes we see question problem that we aren’t even learn yet in the test. I believe that the question problem like that was made to make us think of how to solve it because they want to see how we think and by doing that, they could see our intelligence or potential.
ReplyDelete2. I think that marketing is sometimes bad and sometimes good. The reason I think that is because sometimes they could change the price and make it more expensive and because of that, we would wasted our money for something that we could get cheap but we’ll have to pay more expensive if they changed the price of the stuff. However, sometimes markets are trying to get more people to their store and they would sell stuff cheaper than other store and it would get more customers to shop in their store. So, every market had impact the way people think like where to buy stuff that’s cheaper.
3. I think that the jobs in the future would be a lot and it would be different of kinds of jobs that people would do. I think that because of this, it will impact jobs in the future and this would definitely effect the job that I will be pursued after college. So, I think that it would change the way I think of the kind of job that I want to do after college because I think that more jobs is coming up and I might change my decision to decide what job is the best for me to have.

ReplyDelete1.) I've taken the ITBS, PSSA, DRA, 4Sight, PSAT and SAT tests. The only one of those that I really didn’t like was the DRA. I don’t think that the DRA is an accurate reflection of reading skills. I read extremely well and comprehend almost everything, but I dislike writing about it. The way that the DRA grades you is your written response to the text. If I don’t like to write, I'm obviously not going to do well on a writing test that my grades do not depend on. If the test were verbal, I would have tested out in 6th grade. The other tests are all pretty similar and are, in my opinion, pretty good reflections on the skills that they focus on, with the exception of the essay question on the 4Sight and PSSA.
2.) For most people, I think this will affect the way we spend in a positive way. It will make us think more about what we actually need and whether or not buying something will be a waste of our hard-earned money. About jobs, it may make it slightly more difficult to get employed for the same reasons. Companies will be thinking more about whether or not they actually need new employees, rather than just employing people so that they can make more money. This can be taken either way, really, because it is a good thing for business owners but not so much for average employee.
3.) All of the L-Brained jobs are being outsourced, but my career aspirations are not so easily outsourced. True, it is an L-Brained job, but I doubt that other countries can lower the cost of being a biologist. So, my post-college aspirations have not changed much. I do think, however, that companies should try to keep jobs in the US, and reduce the fast growing unemployment rate. I feel that jobs in the future are, in the long term, in danger. If all the jobs get outsourced, there won’t be enough jobs for all the people in the US, worsening our already bad economic situation.
1. I think so because it shows us how far we are in learning and how far we can think when we have to answer the question. When we have to take the 4sight a lot of people don’t want to take and then they always end up having a bad test. But if they went into the test with a positive mind then they would probably do well on the test. So when we have to take these types of tests I think that it does reflect on our intelligence. So when we have to take tests like this it really does what to see how smart we are.
ReplyDelete2. Sometimes the marketing business can be really bad sometimes because how they are going to waste a lot of money because when they have to make the brand named and the store brand they are wasting money on that. I think that if that item would not sell and they have wasted all of that money making that item. But when you go to the store and you see the same thing put the other cost so much then they would probably get the item with the lowest price. That is a good marketing thing to do but they are wasting money making the same item and getting little back.
3. I think that the jobs of the future can be a good thing because and it will be a whole lot different because it would probably be based on routines that you would have to do. It really won’t affect people in general but when they get to the job that they have to do then it would probably affect them. After college people will be affected because they are fresh and new to the industry and they would really have to adjust to the job that the person has to do. For people that come right out of college it is hard for them to understand what is happening to them.

ReplyDelete1. I personally am not big on test. Test that can tell which place I am in really bring me down. These tests are always making me frustrated. For example I always do well on one part of the test and on the other part I slack a little. Our teachers always give us different methods to use to get better and they work. Some times when our teachers give us our grades they give us advice on how we can do better and how improve our grades. Even though they are hard and I am not big on test I like to take them so I can know what I need to improve on.
2. This effects our purchasing by us spending less money. If we ask our selves why we want something or need something it will make us think more on buying that item. Sometimes we don’t necessarily need something we more want it. If we are spending our money just on things that we want then no it is not spent well. If you are just spending money on things that you want and do not need then you are basically spending your money on anything. I think that they are good things because they are keeping the jobs in the United States. By people spending more money the employees are keeping their jobs.
3. I think that there will be more jobs in the future because of the sell that places are making. This will effect jobs after college because there will be more jobs you can get. Also with a college degree you at most likely to get a good paying job. Different jobs that depend on routines are at risk but the risks are getting lower. Even though they are on routines, they are routines that can be stuck to. Out sourcing is a good thing because they are sending low paying jobs over seas that way when people graduate they will get higher paying jobs.

1. In my opinion tests like the 4-Sights and the PSSA’s sort of reflect one’s intelligence but also their strengths and weaknesses as a learner as well as their potential.
2. Wanting and needing is two different things. Needing has higher priorities unlike wanting something. Separate the two and that way it will make it 10x easier on you and your money. That money is not really well spent if you are the type of person that spends their money on things that they want. According to the outsourcing jobs, it is a bad thing. Personally, buying things that you want is like unnecessary spending.
3. The way that I feel about future jobs, well, they’re not always going to be the best. It all depends on what kind of job I end up pursuing in my future. I cannot really determine that at this moment. I feel as though I can’t see my future because it’s still being figured out.
Sophie.
ReplyDelete1. My experiences with standardize testing is that it’s not fun. When I usually take a test I clamp up and get nervous. I have no clue but every time I go into take a test I just see a whole bunch of problems that I know I can’t finish. Standardize testing is nerve wracking and hard. I do not believe that these are accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential because some people are just not good at taking tests and clamp up like I do. Its not fair because these test are all or nothing and some people just do not do as well as others.
2. It affects our daily purchasing and spending because more and more people are now thinking about what they are buying and what they are doing. Sometimes people are just buying things to buy them and not thinking about their actions. This is bad because now that our economy is in a rut people can not afford to just go out and participate in reckless spending. In ways outsourcing is a good thing because we are saving more and more money but in the end it is bad because we are not offering jobs to the people who need them in the United States. Even though they outsource and gives more jobs it is still taking away other peoples jobs.
3. I feel that fewer jobs will become available in the future for my generation. Now a lot of things are being controlled by machines and technology and sooner or later all of our options will be gone. As for outsourcing as I said in question number two it is a good thing because we are saving money but it is bad because we cannot receive jobs for people who need them in the United States. This can affect my life after college because if we keep outsourcing to different countries their will be no jobs left for any of us.
I do believe these test are accurate, because of how difficult they are. All of these tests take a long time to complete. Majority people have to think critically to make sure there answer is correct. I’m positive that these are reflections of ones intelligence. But, I’m not so sure if it is for someone’s potential. In my opinion, the only way to understand everybody’s potential is to meet them face to face and to have a conversation. This does effect our every day spending because when we buy stuff we look at the name brands as well as the prices. Some name brands we trust more the others and it’s possible that they could be the same thing just packaged differently. I think outsourcing is both good and bad. It’s good to get things done at a cheap price. But it also is bad because it doesn’t help other countries economy. It seems as if we are using them since we don’t have to pay them as much as people in the U.S. In the future I think jobs will be even stricter, seeing that jobs now have routines that people have to follow or they will lose their jobs. I think this will not really affect the job that I wish to pursue since the rules are already strict and there are routines you have to follow.
ReplyDelete1. I don’t think those tests show accurate information about ones intelligence. They might show a little bit of accuracy, but it only can see how much a person knows about a certain topic. The person may know a lot about something, but not a lot about another topic. They aren’t always accurate, that’s how I feel about all of these different types of tests. Some tests that have different types of topics, like IQ tests do sort of show how smart people are. Sometimes someone may not have learned certain things, and we cannot hold that against them. So not all tests are accurate about someone’s intelligence.
ReplyDelete2. This affects the way we shop because now we see what is the right and wrong things to purchase. We have better ways of buying items, because we look at the little things, like the price or quality of different things. I think that the money is sometimes well spent. Outsourcing can be good at times because it helps make more money. It makes us spend more on marketing, this can be good because we still make more money, and we can hire more designers to help sell the items. That also makes us lose money at the same time.
3. The jobs in the future are going to be completely different. There is going to be different kinds of jobs, the ones we have now won’t be the same when we get out of college. I want to be a music producer or a game designer, so the jobs may have new technology, and they may only hire a certain kind of people. This will make it harder for everyone to get a decent job, or at least the jobs that they want to have when they decide to get one.

ReplyDelete1.) Personally, when it comes to 4-Sights, PSSA’s, and all of those other standardized tests, I can’t stand them. I’m not exactly sure why, but I just do not like them. However, I try to do better on the PSSA’s rather than on the 4-sights. I think this is because the PSSA is posted throughout the whole state, where as the 4-Sights, are just individual and/or schools. I mean that’s probably not right and I should want to do my absolute best on both, it’s just I get more worked up for the PSSA. Now, even though these tests are taken seriously, I don’t think it shows a person full potential because there may just be some areas that one is weak in.
2.) I think that since It is no longer “I need to buy / own….,” now it’s “why do I need / want to buy / own that,” it may help people’s expenses in the long-run. Since people are really starting to think and question themselves before making a purchase, they can decide if the money will really be well spent. Many of times people can easily realize they don’t “need” something, they easily save money fast. I think that when it comes to outsourcing, that it is a good thing because you are able to get more of a variety and “shop around” to save money. Then, when they spend more on marketing, I think it would all balance out.
3.) I feel that jobs now and of the future, are becoming more advance. They’re thinking of other ways to cut down expenses and increase profit. In the business world, I think that this makes perfectly good sense. The only bad part is that by doing this, many people can become out of jobs. Now, when it comes to outsourcing, it seems like a really good profitable idea. It just doesn’t profit the working community here. When I get of age, it may be harder and there may be more competition and work needed into being hired. Looking at the affects now, it seems like thing will be very different by the time I’m done with college.

1. Well throughout the years children have been required to take a PSA, 4-Sight, and SATs to show what you’ve learned during the time you were in school. I personally never like to take the test. There wasn’t any doubt in my mind that I could do it I just didn’t understand its purpose. I believe that I did okay on the 4-Sight testing; but, I could have done better if they gave us more time to do it. We as a class get 60 minutes for each part of the 4-Sight which is reading and math, but some of those things take critical thinking, and if you want to get it completed you sometimes you have to guess. I don’t like to have to rush then that gives me the idea of not excelling the way I would have preferred to. Honestly, I do not think that it is an accurate reflection of someone’s intelligence all the time. Some people just get it and some people don’t. At times I am both and my scores are either advanced or basic or proficient and advanced it all depends on my skills. It doesn’t show the complete potential in an individual because he/she is brighter than that; at least I know I am.
2. Materialism runs the average American life. If it’s not name brand usually it’s not wanted. It can be the same shirt but if you put a baby fat logo on it then they buyer would go after that shirt. Not all people spent there money recklessly, a lot of people prefer to bargain shop to save money because they don’t have cash to just waste. Outsourcing is a good thing because the U.S is saving money. It is also a bad idea because it doesn’t offer Americans jobs, they end up employing foreigners.
3. I think outsourcing is a good idea in some cases because it’s a good opportunity to communicate with other people that are not natives of the country. But, it can’t be a continuous thing because then we’re going to be giving our jobs away and there won’t be any good ones left after college. Soon technology will take overt the business world and a lot of people will be jobless.
Jonathan:
ReplyDelete1. I think the PSSA tests are useful sometimes, but I don’t think we should take it every year in high school. I don’t think we should take it in March because most of the kids forget most of the work they learned earlier in the year. I like the 4sight personally because it is taken at the beginning of the school year to get us ready for the year. I think we should take that test every year because it tells you how much you improved over the school year. I don’t like how the PSSA depends if you graduate from your grade for the year when you worked so hard during the school year. It makes us seem like if we fail the tests that we are dumb and don’t work hard when you work hard all year.
2. I think it is the way we know what is the right way and the wrong way. It makes our lives much cheaper than it really should be. I think outsourcing is horrible, but it used by these companies to get employees to work for less money. I think this money is well spent because it’s just using normal materials and putting their brand on it like it’s theirs and people think that and want to go buy it. I think it’s a smart way to make money and I would probably do it too if I were in their position.
3. I think it will effect how people enjoy their jobs. It might make kids or seniors, to choose another job for a career. I feel that the people that created the jobs will have to change it up because their businesses will be in jeopardy because people won’t want those boring jobs. They are going to want jobs that they can do different things and moving around a lot. I feel the jobs in the future are going to need to switch their working schedules and plans because they will not get any employees and will lose profit.

ReplyDelete1) i have a lot of experience with standardized testing. During your elementary and high school years you are required to take the pssa test. I think them accurate about the reflections of one's intelligence. Also depending on how the person is feeling can have a big impact on how well they do on the test. When people are in a bad mood and they have to take a test the results will reflect on the way they were feeling at the time they had taken the test. Standardized test show one’s intelligence and it shows how much they still have to learn.
2) Depending on the job it would be a good idea to outsource some jobs. It would be good for some jobs because it would save them more money. They would also be able to make more money then they could before. It is also bad because it could cause some company’s to lose money or make less then what they had been making before the outsourced to another place.
3) How feel that many of the jobs that we have now are going to change in future once we graduate college. Outsourcing can affect the jobs that people want to pursue after college because some positions may not be open in your area. For some jobs you may have to go some where to get that position that you may want or you would have to settle for something else. When jobs outsource it could mean that you would be making less money because they may not have to pay you that much. This could pose a problem for people that hope to have a stable life style it could change everything either for the worst or the best.

ReplyDelete1.I do think that the PSSA’s, 4sight’s, and the SAT’s are kind of good when it comes to that type of stuff. But I also think that it does it off of memory which makes it off of potential and intelligence. I do think they good a job when it comes to that type of stuff. They may not be completely accurate when it comes to that but it is very close to the actual intelligence. It might just be for memory and I don’t think memory is exactly intelligence but it comes very close to what it’s supposed to do.
2.It affects our spending because it makes use more of our money and we may have a lot but we do it because we think its better for us and its more healthy. The money isn’t well spent because we are spending more money on stuff that is the same that cost 1 or 2 dollars less. I think it is a bad thing because people work extra hard for more money that they don’t need to do because we can buy the cheaper things. It’s a good thing to them because with marketing they can get more funds because they make people think its better.
3.Jobs in the future will be very hard to get. Many people won’t believe because they try to do different things and people catch the secrets and they don’t get a lot of money. This is because people buy the cheap ones because they need to save their money. It will affect our jobs in the future because they want people who come up with more ideas and people who can’t do that won’t have many jobs when it comes to that stuff. So it will ruin the whole jobs that people want in the future after college.
Alexa Pd.2
ReplyDelete1. No, I do not think that the PSSA, 4Sight, SAT etc, are not a good reflection of one’s intelligence or potential. I say this because as the article pointed out it is based on problem solving skills, which is more of the strong suit for the left brain thinkers. I think that if those tests would add questions that involved more creative thinking, then they would be a better reflection or their potential. It would also be a better reflection of one’s potential and intelligence if they wouldn’t time the test and just let people finish when they finish, because then they would be able to think the problem through without being an anxious wreck.
2. I think that outsourcing can be both a good thing and a bad thing. For example if a company feels as though it will be a good investment to send jobs to another country to make more money and so they won’t have to pay their current employees as much. But it is also a bad thing because this will mean that the company will have too much money left over and most likely will not make wise decisions on what to do with it.
3. In my opinion I think that jobs of the future may or may not be many available. I feel this way because technology is taking over the jobs of many people now and I feel as though we aren’t being very creative anymore and we are becoming too dependent on technology. I think outsourcing will make there be even fewer jobs because then someone in another country will be getting a job that people in the United States desperately need.

ReplyDelete1) I think standardized testing is good because it can kind of give you an idea of what is taught and how much each student comprehended. It shows what schools excel more. It also shows what content should be taught for that certain grade level. Personally, I think the test is good for the benefit of the student but really don’t like the testing. No, I don’t believe these tests are accurate reflections of ones testing because some people are not good at testing. Taking a test is kind of like a skill. I think people need to be taught to test. I believe this will give them an advantage. For example, some people freeze up or blank out when testing. What you do in a classroom and on a test is two different things. Personally I don’t think testing is appropriate for determining one’s knowledge.
2) By asking simple questions like “Do I really need this?” or “Is this a necessity? can make a whole lot of difference on your wallet. Everyday many people purchase without thinking, which I believe it a major cause of serious debt today. I guess if you could tell if a person is a right brain or left brain thinker, you could tell if they are good at managing their money. In many cases people re-think how they should spend their money, the difference between necessity and want. I people would make better choices I think it would be a good help.
3) I think as the years go on it will be harder to get certain jobs than now. Many businesses go global and than lead to outsourcing, which takes a lot of jobs from places such as the United States to places like India or china, for less. I think the jobs will become scarce. I think outsourcing will affect America greatly. This will make it harder to get the jobs wanted after going to college. Americans demand a lot more money than other workers in other countries. This has already hurt us. I think we need to make more jobs that only can be used in our country. This will provide more jobs for others.
I’ve only taken a couple of the standardized tests and I do think they help a lot. Taking the PSSA shows the difference in intellect from the beginning to the end of the year. As far as entrance exams and other tests I think they help as well because it almost forces the test taker to study if they ever hope of passing the test. If anything were to change I think we should take more testing or a big test at he end of end school year. Nothing bad could come out of having to take standardized test in school really.
ReplyDeleteThe mind seems to always search for something new or a change in things so seeing or owning something makes you want something different. This goes for the same way we buy things. We either want more or something different. Outsourcing jobs wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing in our time because we have such a high unemployment rate that we need all the jobs we can get for our own people.
Saying these jobs are all at risk is a HUGE overstatement because every job somehow or someway depends on a certain routine or process. I don’t really think there is a job out there that just depends on pure luck or just something new right off the top of your head. Everything we do can be broken down into a process. Outsourcing can replace many needed jobs that many Americans may want in the future. As for me I either want to become a surgeon or a designer of Artificial Intelligence so I don’t really think my future career is at stake.
1. Share your thoughts and / or experiences with standardized testing (PSSA, 4Sight, SAT). Are these tests accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential? I feel that the PSSA and the 4 sight test are not reflections to one’s intelligence. I say this because now a days students don’t really care about these test which they should but some just don’t. I think that these test are some what a type of reflection on students and to me these test are very interesting and some times kind of complicated. My past experiences with these test have been good after seeing my results I progress every year and try my best to accomplish what I have been doing and keep doing a good job.
ReplyDelete2. I think that outsourcing is a good idea because it gives many people the opportunity to get things for less instead of what it is now. Outsourcing gives people the chance to get more jobs and the way the economy is looking now that would be a good idea because many people are now becoming unemployed and not being able to support for themselves and most of all their family.
3. All jobs that depend on routines – that can be reduced to a set of rules, or broken down into a set of repeatable steps – is at risk.” How do you feel about jobs of the future? Outsourcing? How will this effect jobs which you will be pursuing after college? I feel that jobs in the future may pay less money because of the fact of outsourcing and getting people more jobs. This may affect the way the job I want because there may not be any position open left in the field I am looking into.

1. I do believe these test are accurate. One reason is because of how difficult they are. All of these tests take a long time to complete. Majority people have to think critically to make sure their answer is correct. I’m positive that these are reflections of ones intelligence. But, I’m not so sure if it is for someone’s potential. In my opinion, the only way to understand somebody’s potential is to meet them face to face and to have a conversation. It is hard to judge someone’s potential by their test scores.
2. This does effect our every day spending because when we buy stuff we look at the name brands as well as the prices. Some name brands we trust more the others and it’s possible that they could be the same thing just packaged differently. I think outsourcing is both good and bad. It’s good to get things done at a cheap price and not as much money is spent. But it is also bad because it doesn’t help other countries economy. It seems as if we are using them to do our work since we don’t have to pay them as much as people in the U.S. For example, many electronics like computers and cars.
3. In the future I think jobs will be even stricter, seeing that jobs now have routines that people have to follow or they will lose their jobs. I think that outsourcing is a smart thing to do. I still think it is bad to use other countries. But at the same time it is saving our economy by not spending that much money. I think this will not really affect the job that I wish to pursue. Since the rules are already strict and there are routines you have to follow.

ReplyDelete1. Share your thoughts and / or experiences with standardized testing (PSSA, 4Sight, SAT). Are these tests accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential?
I think that the PSSA, 4sight, and SAT testing does show intelligence and potential about a student but not all the time because people have different ways of thing. My thoughts of the PSSA, 4sight, and SAT testing are I think that it is a good and bad thing. The good side of the test is it shows the teachers and people what type of things that your child is learning. Another thing it shows if your child is learning and what level they are on (learning wise). But the bad thing about PSSA and SAT some students do not take the test serious, and stress over the test.
This effects our daily spending because people spend their money on stuff that is the same thing but has a different name on it. It effects are purchasing and spending because that could be more money to be save then spend on other stuff. I don’t think it is well spend money. Outsourcing job can be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing. The good thing about it is a company can spend less money in a different country to help them save. But it can be a bad thing for example if an American loses their job because they are moving to a different country then that person loose not only their job but they will have a hard time find a job and ect.
. All jobs that depend on routines – that can be reduced to a set of rules, or broken down into a set of repeatable steps – is at risk.” How do you feel about jobs of the future? Outsourcing? How will this effect jobs which you will be pursuing after college?
I think that jobs in the future mite be more difficult to find. If companies and business continue to more to other countries to save money it will affect the American to get a job. It will make it hared for people to buy companies product if people can afford it. I think that we should have outsourcing jobs but only for curtain jobs. But I hope when I get out into the real world and done with college their will be jobs left because, it hard to survive with out money. Cause if you don’t have money its not going to get you know but homeless.

ReplyDelete1. Share your thoughts and / or experiences with standardized testing (PSSA, 4Sight, SAT). Are these tests accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential?
Me personally I don’t believe that standardized test are even worth the amount of time put into them. They are all only one way to measure intelligence. Also, they are not 100% accurate because not everyone is good test takers because of the lack of attention span on posses. I don’t do as well as taking an hour long test as I do if I were to take a speaking test in front of an audience. To me these tests are a waste of time. I also don’t like how it seems like teachers, professors, and other administrators give these test so much power it’s like they can and will determine the rest of your life and I don’t believe that is right.
2. Overabundance of “stuff” (from L-directed Thinkers) leads to a shift towards R-directed thinkers to repackage, re-sell stuff to us. Thinking about outsourcing jobs is this a "good thing" or a "bad thing"? While outsourcing we allow ourselves to spend more on marketing - is this a "good thing" or a "bad thing"?
In my opinion I believe that outsourcing jobs is a good thing because it is a good way for the people more of what they need for less. Also, outsourcing gives more people jobs and which will help the economy out tremendously. So if I had to vote weather or not outsourcing jobs was a good or bad thing, I would say it is a good thing in a second because I believe if it will help benefit the United States, it’s a good thing.
3. All jobs that depend on routines – that can be reduced to a set of rules, or broken down into a set of repeatable steps – are at risk.” How do you feel about jobs of the future? Outsourcing? How will this effect jobs which you will be pursuing after college?
If they get rid of all these jobs, that will them make there even less jobs available. This will cause the economy to fall in deeper into debt. It will make people start competing even harder for jobs and lots of good employees and workers will be out of there dream jobs.
1) I only have one thought on the standardized testings we have here at Sci-Tech and that thought is that I don't like them. These tests cause so much anger to bubble up inside me every time the teacher even mentions one. Yes, I think the tests are accurate to a certain degree. Sure if we already know the information we should get it right, but there are a lot of things that we don’t know on the tests also. With these questions there are many people who don’t know the answers and just guess. This is a variable all in it’s self because some people could be making “educated guesses” and some people could just be “guessing.” This is one reason why the standardized tests don’t accurately show true potential of students.
ReplyDelete2) I think outsourcing is good in the aspect of a business’s monetary gain, but not for the people of the corporation. For example if a person goes to college for 8 years in hopes of pursuing a certain career, once they realize that their job can easily be taken away from them one they make some mistake, they will constantly be on edge. I don’t know if this would bother everyone but I know that it would bother me. I do credit the Right brained thinkers for being able to come up with the idea of re-selling things such as putting logos on plain t-shirts to make them more appealing and to sell more. I think outsourcing is a bad thing and I don't think that spending more on marketing is too much better.
3) Well this is the reason that I think outsourcing isn’t a good idea. Personally, I’m planning to attend 11 years of college to eventually become a pediatrician. I already know that I am going to be able to get a job so I don’t worry about it, but for some people they might not be as blessed. I think it’s ok to open up new division of shops in different places like India and Mexico, but it’s not right to give the jobs that Americans would get to other.

ReplyDelete1. I think sometimes test can be misleading. I think there is a difference from a good test taker and someone who is exceptional in the classroom. Just because you do bad on the test doesn’t mean you don’t comprehend it in the classroom. Some people get nervous or blank out during a test but in the classroom they understand it because there isn’t any pressure. The only test I think accurately reflects ones intelligence is the SAT simply because it Is a test that things from all your years of high school and it shows how well you understood things in high school.
2. I think people are now more careful because of the financial complications going on in The United States. It makes people save money when they realize they don’t need certain things they buy. It might hurt companies that make stupid things that is not needed because people are more cautious of how they mange their money and what they spend it one. I think it is a good thing that people are more cautious for various reasons. It keeps less people in debt and less people struggling financially and one less person that could help the economy. I think being cautious of what you buy helps instead of hurts.
3. I think that is a bad thing because some people need direction in their job and if they don’t have that thy might loose their job or not get a job at all. That means more people out of work and that will hurt our economy even more. I think it will be even more difficult to get jobs in the future because these jobs will require certain people and those who need direction in their job will be left out to dry. When I get out of college I might have to change something about myself so I am capable to do certain jobs.

ReplyDelete1. Share your thoughts and / or experiences with standardized testing (PSSA, 4Sight, SAT). Are these tests accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential?
When it comes to taking standardized test I don’t perform that well. I can’t concentrate in such a highly controlled climate. It is hard to function in complete silence for hours at a time. I lose focus and zone out. The environment feels so boring and I can’t deal with it, it drives me crazy. My scores aren’t always the best, but I am a very intelligent person with a lot of potential and horrible test taking skills.
Outsourcing jobs is good or bad depending on the circumstances. If a company needs to cut down in order to save money and eventually expand, then outsourcing is a good thing. But if they just want to pay less to employees over seas then it is bad, because there are people who are left jobless over here who have mouths to feed as well.
3. All jobs that depend on routines – that can be reduced to a set of rules, or broken down into a set of repeatable steps – is at risk.” How do you feel about jobs of the future? Outsourcing? How will this effect jobs which you will be pursuing after college?
I think that jobs and careers to come will be the best ever and more appealing to my generation and people of the conceptual age. As time goes on people don’t want to be trapped behind a desk reading instructions that will eventually become a part of their daily routine. Times are changing and we want to express our artistic abilities, complete job related tasks outside of the office and be entertained with a career that will pay our bills until we retire. As far as outsourcing is concerned, it will make the availability of these future jobs very slim in the United States. Our economy is better than most so it is more to pay employees here. Ultimately I don’t think it is something to stress about until it is time to begin a career. When I get out of college it might be hard to find a job if outsourcing has become the latest trend in corporate America.

ReplyDeleteFrom my experiences with standardized testing, yes I do believe that these tests are accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential. I say this because when you take these tests there’s no gusting every question, you have to know what you are doing and you have to know the formulas because if you don’t you would just be lost and you will get the question wrong, unless you make a lucky guess in which is not benefiting you because you are not learning anything. If you don’t study the test will be a struggle and you will have a hard time finishing the test in the time that is given to you. So to me yes these tests are accurate reflections of one’s intelligence and potential.
This affects our daily purchasing and spending because we think that when we go to the store the stuff that costs the most is better than the exact same thing that costs less. I think this money is not well spent but if people got it like that there going to spend it how they want it, its there money and cant nobody tell them how to spend there money if they want to buy the most expensive brand of something the will even though it is not a smart way to spend your money. If where talking about outsourcing jobs then yes this is a good thing to do. I think by allowing ourselves to spend more money on marketing is a bad thing because there’s other thing you can be doing with that money but instead you waste it on something that you don’t need.
I feel that jobs of the future will be much easier, and will require fewer employees because of the technology. I also think that the jobs in the future will pay more money because they will not have as many employees meaning fewer mouths to feed. Jobs after college will probably pay even more than before.

ReplyDelete1. No I don’t think standardized tests reflect on ones intelligence because everyone has a different way of thinking. Then others may need more time to think of answers for these test questions. The pressure is on because if you don’t do well you’re not up to the states standards. I know it takes me some time to think of an answer because it’s like everything starts to look the same. Especially on the math standardized tests because math is not one of my strongest subjects and my math score is not all that good but in reading I hardly struggle because comes easier. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but that doesn’t mean someone is not intelligent they might just have a different way of using their intelligence.
2. I think you can get the same kind of style as the other kids when it comes to clothing labels. When my sister and I go shopping we head right to the clearance rack because that’s our mom taught us. There is no shame in that, you got to get clothes on your back and sometimes you can get the same shirt from one store and get the same one cheaper in a different store. Outsourcing jobs are good depending on what business it is. For example, getting a technician in India to create your computer would cost probably 15,000 dollars, but in the U.S you could have someone create your computer for like 70,000 dollars. I don’t about you but I would be picking the guy that can make my computer for 15,000 dollars. Especially if they can do the job just as well a well paid technician.
3. Jobs in the future will need both brain hemispheres as far as thinking goes because in careers like being a designer needs people to be creative and logical. I think Outsourcing will have an effect because people in other countries will do labor for cheaper and will have the same ability as someone else that’s charging much more. In this book I read called Fast Food Nation talks about how people in the U.S. wouldn’t work in the meatpacking industry because it was one of those jobs that people didn’t really want. Then the people who owned the meatpacking industry would have immigrants like Mexicans and Guatemalans to the dangerous hard labor for them.

3 Questions
1. I believe that when taking tests such as the standardized tests (PSSA, 4sight, and SAT) it helps teachers and students in many ways. For one it helps your placement. It lets your teachers know where you need help on or where you need improvement which is a good thing. Saying that, some people become anxious or get nervous when taking tests as serious as these, therefore not doing as well as they could be have if they weren’t as nervous. Personally I think that if you study and take your time taking these tests you can show your full potential.
2. I believe that sometimes it is good to outsource some jobs. When out sourcing companies save a lot of money that they then can put toward making jobs better for the others that work there. I don’t think most people believe this because people have the mind set that when outsourcing jobs the people that lose them are out of a job and are left to fend for themselves. That being said, I also think that while outsourcing jobs that include jobs like fast-food tellers and other jobs that are easier or set for teens, we are without jobs.
3. I believe that if outsourcing becomes a big thing before I’m even out of college then finding a job for someone getting out of college will be very hard. Doing this might alter my future in a way that I won’t have a job to help support my family and myself alike. Also this changes the way I think about outsourcing because now that I think about it, outsourcing my not only affect the people around me but it will also effect me in the process. If things get worst in the economy I think that this will force people in the job market to embrace outsourcing trying to save money.
1) Yes, it does because it shows you what you know about the questions test us on what we know and what we need to work on more. It can also show us what level we are on in each subject that we take also. It can also show our potential by how much we know and how hard we worked on the test. That is what I think. This test is mostly based on what our intelligence rate the moment we take not on the potential that we have. These tests are accurate on reflecting on what we know because it shows us all that we know and what we don’t know so that we can work on it.
ReplyDelete2) I think that it will change our daily spending because they have about 20 fast food places, and about 2 malls on the same block that are selling that are selling the same things and nobody wants to buy any of it so they are fast food drive through will be said by the Philippians and other places that are across seas. With them doing this they will be able to have more people work inside and make more money. Maybe they might even be able to have a delivery boy or even have food be made even faster because more people will be working in the back making the food.
3) I think that in the future jobs like these will be sent to other countries so that some jobs will be able to cut cost and be able to save money for the companies. I also think that all left brained jobs will be sent over and right brained jobs will stay here because they are able to do more with themselves then right brainers. I think that it will affect the job that I want a little bit because after college I want to pursue to be a forensic scientist or a chemist. The chemist job will be sent over but the forensic scientist has a lot of art and figuring things out so I think that it will only affect certain people.

ReplyDelete1. Well I say all the test reflects one’s intelligence, because the test are there to tell weather your at a level or above the level your suppose to be at. And where your potential comes in is how well you do after you redo the test and where you are at there. That will tell you if your improving or not, what you need to work on or if you need to move on.
2. I think it has its pro and cons. The pro is that the executives may pay someone less from that outsource than their current employee. Than there are the cons, the cons are the society and their mind set of wanting things that they don’t need. For example sneakers, they may come out that are black and white straps made by an unknown person, but the same exact sneakers come out made by Nike. There is no difference, only that on is name brand. Or look everyone wants what ever had Obama’s name or face on it. It could be socks, towels, or even underwear.
3. It doesn’t affect me and my future because my job is that I’ll be my own boss. I’ll hire those who are well qualified to the job not on how. much they would cost. And for rules and routines they are only broken if you allow them to be broken.

ReplyDelete1. Why do you think it is important that we learn about how the brain functions?
I think that it is important that we learn about how the brain function so that we will be able to train our brain to work at maximum potential at all times. I also think that it is important that we learn about how the brain functions because we need to know how to make our brain develop and produce more for our self.
2. How do you believe that this will improve your learning as a student?
I think that this will improve my learning as a student because I now know what my brain is able to process with no problem, so I can fill it with useful information in which will help me accelerate in my farther future. By knowing what kind of thinker I am, I will know what things that I am very good in and also what kind of things that I need to work on.
3. Using the examples from the chapter describe the trend that jobs are beginning to follow.
In the book the trend that jobs are beginning to follow are jobs that are held by people that are creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers. These jobs include artist, inventors, caregivers, big thinkers.

ReplyDeleteMy reaction with standardized testing is that I usually get too worried and I wouldn’t be able to remember what I am supposed to do and forget how to solve the problem I would usually blank out when I see the problems that I have to answer on the standardized testing and I would guess on the problems. I would do a lot better if it wasn’t a test because I am not nervous at that point and I am more focused. I usually don’t do as good if it comes to quizzes and testing. I really don’t like taking standardized tests because it doesn’t show my reflection of intelligence and potential.
I think that for some people, they are careful with spending their money and for others; they are not spending their money very wisely. The people that their money is well spent are the owner, manager, etc. of a company or a store. Outsourcing jobs are both good and bad; depending on their jobs and the amount the people are getting paid. It is good for the owner, manager, etc. because they are saving a lot of money for themselves to spend on other things and for hiring other people to work for them. Another good thing about outsourcing is that it provides more available jobs. The disadvantage is for the people in foreign country because they are not getting paid the same amount if they work in the U.S. as the same profession. I think that outsourcing would be a good thing for us in marketing because we would have more money to spend in other fields of marketing that would bring us more benefit/profit.
I think that the jobs in the future are varying because the economy is decreasing and there are many people who are losing their jobs. I think that the jobs of the future would be very different from today and I feel like the job availability is decreasing that could affect our profession. I think that there would be more outsourcing in our country which would affect the employment in the U.S. It’s because the owner, manager, etc. of a company would have a higher profit if they hire people from foreign country because they would pay those people to do the same job but for a lot cheaper. I could affect the job that I will be pursuing in the future after college because we are depending on outsourcing and those people from foreign country could be taking my job because they get paid a lot cheaper.
