Chapter 6: Symphony


1. Listen to Haydn's "Surprise Symphony" No. 94. How is a symphony similar to the way you write an essay, draw a picture or put something together? Compare and contrast.

2. What was the name of the drawing class in which Daniel Pink enrolled?
  • After reflecting on his first self portrait how does Pink describe how he drew his lips? Why do you believe that this occurred and how does this relate to our thinking (as humans)?
3. What is a metaphor? Pink believes it is important for us to build our MQ. Do you agree or disagree with his argument? Use examples from your own life to support your answer. Using at least 5 metaphors, describe yourself/your day or your week, making sure to explain the metaphors you use.

4. In the chapter Pink talks about a specific disorder which several people partially contribute their success to. Please answer the following questions relating to this disorder.
What disorder is considered to be an aide in R-brain thinking.
  • Who partially contributes their success to this disorder?

  • How does this disorder contribute to R-Brain thinking? - use at least 2 examples from the text to support your response.

Chapter 4: Design
